The bag in the pantry. The sprinkle on the smoothie bowl. The seed everyone respects and no one actually craves. Chia deserved better. So we built a brand, an everyday product around it.

Food culture gave us two options: over-optimized wellness that feels like homework, or ultra-processed convenience pretending to be healthy. We wanted something else — whole-food, craveable nutrition. Built around one ingredient that was already doing the work.

My story with chia started simply — by eating spoonfuls straight from the bag.
I was fascinated by this tiny seed. Its beauty. Its remarkable nutrition. Its ancient roots. And the almost magical way it transforms when mixed with water.

As I dove deeper, I discovered that chia was a treasured food of the Aztecs and Mayans, originally grown in southern Mexico, valued for the lasting energy it provided. In Mayan, “chia” means “strength.” I later learned how the Tarahumara (Rarámuri) ultrarunners of northern Mexico relied on chia as a staple endurance fuel during their legendary long-distance over 100 miles runs.

Marie-Josée and Alon met backpacking through India. They fell in love twice — with each other, and with the idea that food could be so much better.

They came back to Montreal, pooled $3,000 in savings, and started selling organic trail mixes and flavored nuts at a local farmers' market. Organic was barely on the radar. They did it anyway.

Twenty years and one thriving family business later, Chialove™ is their next chapter. Built entirely around the ingredient they always believed deserved its own brand — and the morning routine people actually needed.
